Memorial Fund for Grizz.. for those who would like to make a donation

As many of you know our long time friend and staff member of many years took his own life last week. He moderated on this board for several years and moderated on quite a few others.

He was one of a kind. I won't even begin to try and sum up who he was in a few paragraphs. That would be impossible. Here he went by the moniker of His Grizzness and as "Grizzly" on quite a few other boards. His real name was Jeff Gerlick. He was 33 years old. He was a former amateur body builder and a professional MMA fighter. He had a degree in Philosophy and liked to use that debate most of us from time to time... the rest about him can be figured out in his 15K+ posts on this board and thousands of others elsewhere. He was active on the boards and part of this community for nearly 12 years.

Jeff didn't have any life insurance when he passed and his only income at the time was bouncing in bars and clubs. He didn't leave behind the resources his family needs to be able to pay for his funeral. And while his family wasn't poor they certainly weren't rich. The average funeral costs around $10K and because of this we'd like to do whatever we can as a community to help offset that cost.

As such, we've set up a paypal account to take donations from anyone who would like to make one. We will take 100% of the funds deposited into that account and give the money to Grizz's parents who are financially responsible with laying him to rest.

This isn't a demand or anything. It's completely voluntary. If Grizz touched your life in some way and you want to do something to say thank you for that this would be a good way to do it.

Donations can be made through paypal to randypike27@gmail.com for whatever amount you wish. Even if it's just $15 or $20 it would be appreciated and it would help.

I know this isn't a sticky (yet) but that's only because people tend to not even look at stickies on the boards. I'll make sure this thing get's bumped for a few days and then I'll make it a sticky.

Feel free to post any good well wishes to his family or any good grizz memories in this thread.

He was a good friend to many of us for a lot of years and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Peace and R.I.P. my brother...

Im broke as fuck since I got out of jail and not typically in the habit of making charitable contributions but this is one I would be proud to help out with.
Grizz was always there for me when I needed him. I know many bros here feel the same way and Jeff will be missed by many. R.I.P. brother!

Thanks Phreezer. I wont even begin to say what I thought about Jeff, he really was a rare person and such a great guy in so many ways. The people here that knew him, already know what I mean. I will be making a contribution today or tomorrow. I just sincerely wish he could have been helped, knowing Jeff, its heartbreaking to think that he was so low emotionally that he decided to do this. I would rather be making a donation to help him get help. But it is what it is and its a solid reminder that I need to stay on track with my sobriety. Obviously in the grips of alcoholism/addiction, intelligence...charm...even having a sense of humor about it wont keep you from death. RIP my friend, you have made a difference in many lives and were a special person.

If I don't have a PayPal account is there another way to send the money? I'm going to donate and just need to know, do I need to get an account or do I donate by another means? Thanks for setting this up, I was reading about his Pro MMA fights and I sure wish I could have seen him fight. He was the real deal! This is really so very sad!

My god, I knew nothing about this. I have talked with him several times about certain things. A really great guy. One of the few I got to know on here. I will be donating. God speed.

A couple of guys have posted on Grizz's FB page asking for an address to send donations to. I'm sure we'll get an update soon.

As far as I know, no one has heard directly from his family yet. Understandable... for sure. Many of us have reached out to K, Grizz's sister, but I know that neither Randy [using people's real names is fucking up my rhythm] or myself have heard back.

But all info thus far has come through Tiffany with the exception of a brief post on Grizz's page... [hard to get out of the habit of calling him that here] by his sister.

My son has a Paypal account, so I'm going to donate through his.

Just so everyone knows, there will be verification that the money has gone to Grizz's family. I'll make sure you guys know the amount that was sent, we'll post a picture of the check, etc. Whatever it takes to make everyone comfortable. I don't want anyone not donating because they're afraid of being scammed.

Yes. Everyone here will know exactly how much was sent to Grizz's family.

The funeral will likely be on Saturday. I'm pretty sure Randy is going. I can't decide if it's appropriate or selfish for me to go. But I'd like to hear from anyone planning on going.

Is there any other way of sending donations other than paypal? I dont know how to use it. Maybe W/U or online banking?

I'm looking to donate also but won't be able to do it till friday and it will have to be through WU.

If that's possible can someone please send me through details?? Rocco, cyniq, phreezer?

Also, just want to say that I never knew the big guy personally but I was Definitely saddened by the news. His posts/threads always cracked me up.

He will always be remembered on the boards. Left an everlasting imprint on all boards.

I will send a donation. Might not be the biggest though. But I want to help in any way I can.

Rest in peace brother.

Gone but never forgotten.

I am certain that the person who is handling the money will not take one single penny for himself and make sure the money goes to the family.

donation made...

Every penny that is donated to Grizz's memory/expenses will get to his family. Like MK said, the guy handling it is trustworthy. He's someone that Grizz worked with and traveled with and cared about. Randy/Shaq is good people.

So even if you can't donate until later, just let us know what's up. The funds will get there. Those who need alternate means to donate... We can work something out. PM me or Phreezer or Irish. We'll help you work it out.

Incidentally, Shaq and I are meeting up midweek. I know Spanky and MK are in TX. If you want to meet us, you're more than welcome. I have a guest room, MK. 2 actually.
