Bro's, besides AAS what do you do for any joint and tendon problems? I have AC joint issues, so I was using Vioxx and now switched to Celebrex. Both are great, but now I am kind of worried about the health issues w/ Celebrex. My MD says not to worry about the Celebrex use since I am in pretty good shape, but w/ AAS use, that kind of concerns me.

By the way, I am 43....

Yeah i'm 43 also and having issuse.

#1 REST

I got a elbow wrap couple weeks ago and wear that when i have pain its keeps it to a low rumble.

also i take ibuprophen before workouts.

I'm going to start back on my flax i think i was in less pain when i was taking that see what happens.

Agree with staying hydrated also.

I figure if i lift heavy one week the following week i need to lift a little less that way i'm not constantly having to recover so hard all the time, that seems to help though its hard to follow thru on.

The steroids we really have to watch that Blood pressure i already have high BP so i make sure i stay on my meds and don't go too over board on the juice i do not use Tren anymore that one made my BP shoot out the roof and keep test down below 750 a week.

Big J, You are the man!!
I'm your partners age (approx) I also still move some decent weight.
I agree with all that you say.
One thing I do, is a lot more cardio than I used to do.
As a matter of fact I teach 4 cardio class a week at my local Gold's.
(I work full time as Personal Trainer and a Sports Nutritionist)

I gotta tell ya, it's pretty funny to see a 245lb power lifter leading an aerobics class.

As we age we can still train just as hard as the twenty year olds, only smarter.
I know all the years of heavy weight has kept my muscles and bones large and strong. We just need a little more joint care.

Lets keep this thread going.

I have found the older I get, the more careful and stricter I have to be. I have completely eliminated certain lifts and movements from my training that have in the past caused me problems. Training smarter has kept me relatively injury free for the last several years. Shorter, more carefully executed cycles now than before. Diet wise, no more cheat days for me anymore.
By the way, just found this board recently, thought I'd chime in with first post. Looks like good bros here. I've kicked around the boards for years, glad to be here.

Big J, you are the man with those lifts! Please share any joint tips, training tips, supps, etc. I am not a power lifter or competitive bodybuilder, just want to keep the BF low and add some muscle. I am 6' 1", about 240, been lifting on and off the last 15 years, mostly on the last 5. My biggest problem is in my AC joints. I narrowed my grip on the bench and that helped a lot. Don't do much incline. Ortho gave me a cortisone inject in the left in August and it's great. The right had a problem, and he injected that today. Any information will be greatly appreciated!

This is good, glad to see a few more guys chiming in and there are some topics brought up that would make good discussion, that being diet and supp regime and workouts.

Personally my diets not ALL bad i have moments of weakness that are tough to hurdle, I'm 280 pounds because of that. I'm not a power lifter but i do lift a bit heavy 300+ bench's squatings been off and on again for me for different reasons i am retrying them once again after stopping for over a year due to knee pain.

My supps consist of DHEA on an off plus a few cycles a year hormones, daily vitamin, ALA, other antioxidants, milk thistle and protein shakes 1-2 a day depending on my schedule.

I've learned the hard way what works and what does'nt for me, hernia surgery due to bad lifting method, shoulder trouble and am now experiencing some joint pain too, elbows and hands but it's a little cold now too i think that has alot to do with it.

I have changed my workout routines to basically 4 on 3 off each week for better recovery and damn sure do listen to what the bod is telling me alot more now. I've slowed my workouts down more concentration and less lengthy so i keep the volume up there more now.

I have not gotten a cardio routine going whatsoever going, but i know i need it .

What the hell i'll post a pic of this old man :)

Thanks for the info. I have a chiro but she's never heard of ART, the closest one to where I live is 4 hours away. Will definately buy the warming linament and look for a good massuse. What brand of cosamine do you use? I have used Joint Force, its a bit on the pricey side. Thanks again...

38 y.o. here. Been training well over 20 years. Experiencing some pretty major problems with knee pain over the past couple of years. This is due to years of heavy squatting and football injuries catching up with me. I stretch really good and always make sure my muscles are warmed up and limber before starting a workout. On squats, when I get to 315 and heavier, I have to wrap up the knees. But, I have to say that the older I get, the better and more effecient my workouts have become. Very strict form regardless of what bodypart I'm working.

I'm 37 and have 3 recent injuries. The left knee has healed...I think it was the meniscus and now I wear a brace on it. ^ Weeks ago, my lower back started tightening up so bad that I can't do press movements.

Are there any links to some stretching I can do pre workout for the lower back...I have a new health plan as of today $12,0000 a year...so I hope it cover a little chiro.....I’ve gone before and that one crack where your laying on your side, knee bent and the C.P puts his hands on your shoulder and knee and sort of twists your whole body...well, that released allot of pressure and I've tried to get the wife to do it but she isn't strong enough.

And last but not least, I blasted a tendon benching on drop downs (I had 315 on the bar and did 3 when I felt it pop and kept going...225 for 18,135 for whatever) funny thing is my flat bench is affected a little but my incline has drastically been affected.
Does anyone have an idea on what tendon it might be...I'm going light on incline ( like 225) and pulling my hands in closer together as the wide grip at the marks is the spot of extreme discomfort.
Should I just go even lighter or stop for a week (impossible lol) I only bench once a week anyway because of grumpy shoulders from my handball days.

As of right now...I do no stretches whatsoever, except when I bench, when I stretch between every set.

Help For Patsfan

THE TYPE OF STRETCHING WE USE IS CALLED ACTIVE ISOLATED STRETCHING AND YOU CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT IT ON THEIR WEBSITE WWW.STRETCHINGUSA.COM........IN REGARDS TO A CHIRO YOU HAVE TO SEARCH OUT SOMEONE WHO WORKS WITH ATHLETES ON A DAILY BASIS. I USE A CHOIRO WHO WORKS EXCLUSIVELY WITH A PRO FOOTBALL TEAM.HE'S 6'3 275 AND IF HE CAN'T ADJUST ME NO ONE CAN!....ALSO SEEK OUT SOMEONE WHO PRACTICES ART, ACTIVE RELEASE TECHNIQUE IN YOUR AREA.IT DOES WONDERS AFTER A FEW SESSIOMS,HOPE THIS HELPS!

41 and still learning

Ill be 41 this summer and my only problem thus far is my knees. Im 300lbs +-. When i get up in the am i feel like i should be 80yrs. it takes me an hour or so to walk normal. When i climb or decend stairs you can hear the cracking noises from my knees. Im talking loud noises others around could hear. Is there anything OTC that can help my knees out. Thanks Magnus

Patsfan,

Make sure you stretch out your hamstrings too. A lot of lower back stiffness can be related to tight hamstrings. If the pain or tightness persists go get it checked out by a specialist. I had persistent tightness for the past 3 years and it got worst. Had a MRI done and they found a ruptered l4-l5, PARS defect- small crack in the vertebrae, and etc. Now I am facing an artificial disc replacement or fusion. Guess I should of listened to body better and backed off powerlifting. No I don't think so!

DAMN we're all a mess LOL.

I got the creaky knees also magnus not quite you're weight though i'm 280 right now still too damn much weight to be carrying around at our age.

I've had numerous back trouble's but the best thing i've ever done is go to a sports chiropractor he adjusted me several times and since then i've had very little trouble other then a pinched nerve from bad posture on the leg press machine, my fault big time.

I agree with you on the hammstring stretching randy, one thing i do workout consistant are my hammstrings and don't let them atrophy, sorry for the back troubles man that does'nt sound too good.

Hey pat that could be rotator cuff best get it checked out, sometimes it's just a strain but it can be a tear, use LOTS of ice man and give it a break for awhile go light for a few months i went thru it for 8 months with a tear/strain also those physical therapy rotator cuff excercises are very good to do, i did them for a month or so and they helped alot. By the way i was a handball player also i miss the game.
