New gym toughguy (lol)

So the other day me and my ol' lady were in the gym, warming up on the bikes before hitting the weights.

I noticed some guy come in with what looked like his mom. The kid was probably 20 or so, about 5'10 220 with about 89% body fat. Seriously. This kid was a skinny, but fat tub of goo. he had on a tank top and was trying to throw out his beer lats.

So after 10 minutes of walking around with a scowl on his face, he moves over to the bench press, and puts a 45 lb plate on each side. He gets under the bar and mom is spotting. (at this point I nodded to my girl to look over quick, she was about to see something very special)

He grunts, groans and is psyching himself up...Up comes the bar...and DOWN comes the bar ever so slowly. The bar goes down to his chest and he can't budge the whopping 135 lbs crushing his floppy sizzle chest. He turns to his left to try and alleviate the pain of the crushing weight. Mom is leaned over, looks like she's doing stiff legged deads trying to lean way over to lift the weight, which, by the way she could also not budge.

Finally, mom pulls the bar up enough on jr.'s chest to where they can both manage to get it racked. I saw him go over to the drinking fountain, then they both made a prompt exit. I think the kid tore a pec or something.

LMFAO...The day you think your mom can spot you is the day you should go home and blow your brains out.

89% body fat, mom spots son with one 45 a side thats is some funny ass shit. plus, he walks around like a tough guy with a tank top on and leaves the gym with a smashed sternum. a hate those kind of people and have plenty of those at my gym. shit me and my brother are the biggest and strongest in there and they lift pink dumbells and still think they are the toughest mofo in the gym? for example: I work up to 5 45s per side on shoulder press for 8-10 reps and one time after everyone watched me do my lift, I got up and pointed to this tough guy and shouted out YOU ARE NEXT! he took a dump in his pants and walked away. Now his girl keeps looking at me with those I want to do you eyes? what can you do? later, bigballz

5 45's per side for shoulder press? Damn that's alot, I respect the shit out of that nobody in my gym is doing that much I think the most I've seen was 3 45 plates and man was this old guy struggling to do it. I'm pretty new to the workout scene and was excited when I was able to do 1 45 and 2 10's on each side for shoulder press, for some reason I'm a hell of alot stronger with the dumbells the straight bar for shoulders is my weakest workout.lol I'm still weak though I've only been in the gym 2 whopping weeks what can I expect. The story about the fat kid is really sad but does make me feel better about myself so maybe we need these kind of people in our world to help make us happier about ourselves.

You're talking about on a hammer strength machine, right? Otherwise, you might want to look into WSM competitions.

yes bro using the hammer machine, but 5 plates per side is all you can fit.I have yet to see anyone at my gym or else where with my eyes sit down and press 5 plates per side for 8-10 reps like it aint shit! anyways, the most I did on the olympic bar was 4 plates per side for a good 4-5 reps. in front all the way down and all the way up no half ass reps like I see most people doing. I think thats alot of poundage. took a long time to work up to that weight but that was my goal. my chest and shoulders are both the same as far as power goes. I press 5 plates per side on the incline hammer chest 7-8 reps, last time I did bench presses with olympic bar, I worked up to 4 plates and 25 on each side for 4-5 reps. I use 150 dumbells on the incline for 6-7 reps and lying dumbell tricep extentions with 100s for 6-8 reps just to name a few of my lifts. I know I could max well on any of my lifts. To make a long story short. I love having power, any time I have to use it I can. I had a guy get in my face on last wed and I palm striked his ass in the chest and he went flying to the ground, got up and walked away as fast as he could. now the point of that last story was that he talked all this shit in my face and he had know idea that I had that power till he felt it. I did not have to throw a single punch, end of fight! btw it was cold as hell out and I had a coat on,he he. later, bigballz

You're doing 405 shoulder presses for 4-5 reps
You're doing 455 4-5 reps on bench press
If that's correct I'd say you need to work on your bench more.

Beat me to it SJ...

when ever i use the hammer machines, i get pains in my shoulders.

If you are using that much weight on those machines i think you are asking for an injury.

I would also love to see a pic of a 405 shoulder press.

bro I stopped at that weight on the bench a while ago to concentrate on incline chest exercises. I felt that the flat bench was more for my delts and I could have stayed with the bench and got above 500, but at the time I needed to do more bodybuilding and bring some body parts up to par. I think I will take your advice and get back to the bench and try to work past 500? later big ballz.
