I am addicted to them. I only started doing them about 4-5 months ago and hated them, but my strength is going up finally and I love them, make my back feel like its getting huge!! Only one problem, I don't feel that my lift is up to par b/c I am 6 foot 1 232lbs @13% BF and I am only pulling 455 2-3 times, this was my record that I got today. Is this kinda a low # for my stats? I was wearing straps too. what do you guys think??

Bro, if you break 500, that's a very respectable dead. That's over double your body weight.
Considering how long you've been doing them, Very Nice!!

I think I can hit that mark during my next cycle, but i am hoping to weigh around 250lbs by then. BTW, when I started out, I was only pulling 365 for like 5 reps LOL.

Griz- I wish I could man, but I wouldn't have a prayer for pulling this kind of weight without straps, I am cursed with very skinny forearm genetics, but I don't use straps until I absolutely have to, or a belt for that matter.

Ditch the straps and use an alternate grip and chalk.
What does grip strength have to do with a strong back anyway? I agree that you need good grip strength for all intents and purposes and it would be benificial to ditch the strap for warmups. But if you're a bb'r and will never compete as a powerlifter...use straps for the heavier loads and pull more weight than you could without them. I have lower back problems that I have to train around. And the staggered grip throws my back into a spasm every time. I'm sure it's mostly because of poor form but for this reason, I have to rely on the straps.

MOst people at the gyms I have trained at do not even come close to that amount of weight, so I would say good job. Most people avoid deads and squats because they are"unsafe" lol

Just make sure your not overdoing it. If you do a heavy squat workout you are working a lot of the same muscles. Some of the big time powerlifters deadlift about once a month, some even less. I pull for reps with lighter weight once a week, and go really heavy about once every 5-6 weeks. I put 100 pounds on my pull in about six months when stopped going heavy all the time.

some times i will go to the gym and just do 6-8 reps of deads heavy man your whole body will feel that
love them and i advise people to do them to bulk i posted an article on them at AB here it is.

Dead-lift
The Dead-lift is well-known around the bodybuilding world as a super exercise. It works most of
the muscles of the upper body along with the hips and thighs. A person could build a very strong
body by doing only Dead-lifts, Dips and Squats. You must use much care when doing the Dead-lift,
as it is a very dangerous exercise. Back Extensions have no downward stress on the spine. They seem to work fine for strengthening the lower back, but they will not build other muscle groups as the Dead-lift can. You must decide for yourself. If you try doing Dead-lifts, start with very light weights until you get your form down. If you feel the pain all the way into the nerves of your back, you may want to drop the lift, too.
