What are your goals? Strictly weight loss or are you trying to lose body fat while sparing muscle? Either way the thing to focus on for long term success is fat loss.
Personally, when I diet, I change my wieght lifting style to more supersets/ drop sets and other intensity technics. Crank up the intensity and the speed of your workout and you'll see a difference.
The most simple diet advice I can think of for a beginner is probably: get in at least 300g of protein per day, eat low glycemic carbs, eat 6 times a day, and no carbs after 6pm.
And cut out all sodium.
