Anyone had a shoulder replacement or a knee?

I went to my doc over a year ago.
He told me I needed both shoulders replaced because they were bone on bone and that I wouldn't be able to lift more than 20 lbs again.
I hadn't gone back yet.

I have to get my shoulder replaced unfortunately and I’m wondering how lifting is for you. Can you still lift as heavy?
No, you can't lift heavy.
Actually, you have a limit of 25lbs.

Have not had it done yet, I have no cartilage left and really bad artiris in my right shoulder.
Seen two orthopedic surgeons specializing in shoulders and both told me the same.
Both told me NOT to do it since I will not be happy with the limitations and I will have to redo it later in life.

Have you looked into the hemicap surgery? I know a guy much older than us who has had both shoulders replaced with this method and he is still lifting.

I had a very extensive surgery in 2017 and the arthritis is 20 years older than I am according to the doc. It’s bone on bone. The doc spent 40 min lecturing me how I needed to stop lifting. It’s pretty painful doing every day things let alone lifting. What have you done to get around this? What is your lifting like?

My lifting sucks.
I use the weights that used to be my warm up weights.
I do much more light weights and higher reps.
I try to get 4 days a week but for a while now I am getting 2-3 if Im lucky.
A few weeks ago I had 4 good workouts and slept every night that week and I felt like a million bucks.
The week after I made it twice and woke up several nights in pain, felt like shit.
Hate the ups and downs.

I can't even keep my wallet in my right back pocket since it hurts like hell to get it out.
Had to switch to appendix carry since I struggle reaching the gun in the normal IWB 4oclock position.
Shit, Im trying to get a full night of sleep and thats hard now since I wake up in pain all the time.
Weights are getting pushed on the back burner, just trying to stay active at the best.
have been bone one bone for a while. Seeing the rheumatology doctor on Wednesday.
one of my issues with the pain is that im on blood thinners so I have to be very careful with over the counter pain meds and other meds.
I really hate this shit.

I have had 2 surgeries on my right shoulder so its fucked up but this is such a negative life experience.

I had the left one scoped and not really any problems. I waited to long on the right and it got opened up with some stainless parts and its never been the same. During the lockdown somehow my right shoulder was able to heal. I'm able to bench again but noting like I used to. @MorganKane do you think maybe chilling on taxing exercises and taking something to help heal might help? TB500, GH or maybe peptides?

Ugh. I’m beginning to understand this. I had two injections that helped but this last one didn’t touch it. I’ll be damned if I stop lifting but I know I drastically need to change upper body. Specifically push motions or i won’t have anything. Negative is right. It’s soul crushing for me. Just the thought of it. Feb will be 25 years I’ve been lifting. Don’t know who I am without it…..

Let me know what the doc says please. If he offers you any solutions. Thanks

I've been looking into ream and run for a fix. I think they do that in Houston (I'm in Lake Charles, about 2 1/2 hrs away).
Not being able to lift isn't something I'm ready to face. Been doing it over 50 yrs. The pain is like a toothache sometimes which wakes me up at night. And both of my shoulders are bone on bone.

Im waiting for as long as I can before I do that.

I only know about what I read on the web.
The doc installs a new steel ball on the end of your arm at the socket and reams/polishes the socket instead of replacing it.
It's supposed to get rid of the arthritis (clicking in the joint). I have more research to do on it.

A friend had both knees done 15 years ago and shoulders 4 years ago...he was unable to put his pants on or his socks by himself...his shoulders are still a mess...he can't use free weights for upper body anymore...

Kane - check this out https://www.columbusshoulderdoc.com/services/arthroscopic-biological-total-shoulder-resurfacing.

Big guy at my gym had it done 8 months ago and said he feels like high school again. I have a call with them on Thursday.

Please tell me what they say. Im very interested.

had apt today. I’d def look into this. Check your area for refacing surgeons. High success rate. They do want you to have good flexibility and some strength left. He told me he’d do it for me if I wanted to but I’m 38 so he wants to push as long as possible and try prp first to see if it can buy me some time. His point was it might it might not but if it does it’s cheaper than my insurance deductible. Outpatient surgery. All via scope and recover can be 2-4 months. Start PT that week after surgery.

I did a search after you posted that and found that the last orthopedic surgeon I saw does did but he never brought it up.
So I guess im not a candidate for it.
