I have knee pain on the treadmill, so I'll opt for the stationary bike instead.I do both treadmill and elliptical.
The threadmill is the non motorized kind.
Cardio is cardio, just do something that gets your heartrate up.
Running sucks for me, kills my knees.

Prolotherapy will help with that a lot but I healed mine with PRP. Suffered with it multiple times for years hasn't came back in 6 years. I recently bought a centrifuge and I'm going to produce my own PRP for other injuries I may suffer in the future Stem cells are amazing for healing especially with a combination of peptides.I prefer bike because I suffer plantar facitis. .
Yeah ellipticals are great for people with bad knees and hips I personally can't stand the machine I much rather walk on the incline treadmill or run up steep hills and walk zig zag or backwards down . You're absolutely right about losing weight the least amount of body fat the less impact on your knees and hipsI choose certain ellipticals for the same reason. The trouble with treadmills is the impact. A sports medicine guy I see told me each pound of weight we carry results in 5 pounds of knee impact when walking/running.
Elsewhere I've seen similar info https://www.healthline.com/health/osteoarthritis/knee-pain/link-between-weight-loss-and-knee-pain.

Yeah I was speaking of the majority of the world who are sedentary and overweight with osteoarthritis. Yeah when Cutler weighed 260 at the Mr Olympia he had no excess fat but you can believe at 300 he did, especially at that height. I just do HIIT it's quick get it done out of the way lengthy cardio is sort of a waste of time imo if everything else is in order as far as for controlling or eliminating excess body fat. I'm not condemning it just doesn't work for me . To your point though yes weight is weight whether it's a pound of feathers or a pound of s*** a pound is a pound but 300 pds on an unconditioned man with weak joints , tendons and no muscle mass is much more detrimental than the same weight on a guy that has all of thatI haven't found a cardio approach that I particularly like, aside from sex. But I do what I gotta do.
Weight isn't necessary body fat. Jay Cutler weighed 300 pounds at my height. The only fat might have been his earlobes. It's all the same impact on your knees.
