Default Woke up struggling to breathe

Has this happened to anyone?

I dont drink, smoke or use drugs any more... Took a nap the other day for 1-2 hours. Upon waking, discovered I couldn't breathe, started gasping and struggling for air... Went on for about 30 seconds and I finally caught my breath. Everything normal ever since.

Anyone have any idea why this might have happened?

Maybe it was a first realized episode of sleep apnea?

Have your dr. Refer you for a sleep study. You can do those at home now. If u have apnea, they'll prescribe you a cpap machine. It changed my life, literally. It took a few months to get used to, now as soon as I turn on my machine I know il be out in a manner of minutes. I love my cpap.

Thats the sign of sleep apena.

Your body stopped to breath and did what it could to restart breathing.
Horrible feeling.

A friend of mine died this summer from sleep apnea.
Make sure you have it checked out.

See a sleep doc.
first visit it just to set up the sleep study, its a must.

Sleep apnea. With body building comes big traps and a big neck. A big neck can cause sleep apnea.

Ya. I have a huge neck/traps. Makes sense. I have been told before sleep apnea is something i likely have and suffer from God-awful insomnia.

Thanks guys. I will try to see a doctor about this.

Is a cpap machine a pain in the ass to use? What if my insurance doesn't cover it?

There are few different type masks now so at least choices. It weird at first but you get real sleep.

I think most insurance will cover them.

I agree itís a strange sensation at first, the constant positive air pressure. But you do get used to it, and the restful sleep makes it all worth it. I tired the nasal pillows first thinking I wanted something less invasive than the mask but hated it. Sleep like a baby with full mask. Some dr say it can help with high BP although Iíve personally seen no change there and still need my BP meds.

Does not work all the time.
Thats one of the reasons the insurance companies does not like to pay for it.

So you can have the surgery but still need the cpap.

Man, There is a lot of great info we have here. MK wrote a nice piece on this a while back. Outlaw Muscle is actually what got me on a Cpap machine. The Places that sell you the Cpap machines are in business to make money and the prices are stupid for a good one, like the 'ResMed Autoset'. They want $1500. I cant live without one so I found one on craigslist for $250 and then another one for the same price. They have a modem built in and it uploads how well you sleep, then you get an app for your phone and you can check each day.
